Updated Preview for Magic Millions Day

RACE 1

Magic Millions Day on the Gold Coast where will be going around on a Good track which will surely be bordering on firm after a hot and dry week. The rich Maiden kicks things off & we’re looking at a very short priced favourite in the Waterhouse/Bott trained (10) DINNIGAN who beat all Pierata in Group 3 grade at Doomben last time out, that horse is of course a short priced favourite in the Magic Millions 3yo later in the day. Can’t see this being beaten however good luck getting a decent price! The NSW trainers always target this race suggesting (1) MISSILE STRIKE, (2) WESTROCK, (11) PROBLEM SOLVER & (12) ZABEEL’S CHOICE are all worth including in exotics.

Suggested Bet – Dinnigan to win.

10 – 1 – 12 – 2

RACE 2

These Country Cup races can generally be difficult affairs with many different form lines engaged. Even with that being the case I do like the chances of (11) SUGGAN BUGGAN who would have definitely been set for this race by trainer Rob Heathcote. Although only lightly raced his best form has been whilst fresh & he comes into this having not raced for 8 weeks, expecting him to be motoring down the outskirts of the track at the business and of the race. (5) HE’S A MORAL will likely drift back along the fence as is his pattern, he can reel off some slick closing sectionals though & is in the right hands out of the Darren Weir yard. (15) ZAFINA placed at Canterbury last time out, can roll forward from the good gate & put herself in the firing line right from the outset.

Suggested Bet – Suggan Buggan each-way.

11 – 5 – 15 – 6

RACE 3

Interesting race, I’m expecting plenty of support for (3) HAVASAY who has put in a couple of blinders rushing home late over the unsuitable 1050m trip at Doomben both runs this campaign. He comes up with a wide gate here & will either be posted deep or drift right back & give away a big start. Certainly no knock on his form however I can see the very consistent (2) SIEGFRIED getting out to a very appealing price, drawn perfectly for Jeff Lloyd he had zero luck trapped wide here last week peaking late at his first run for 5 weeks, leaning his away. HAVASAY’s stablemate (14) FIT FOR PURPOSE drew a wide gate at Doomben & didn’t do a bad job, two prior wins suggested he’s a horse with good upside.

Suggested Bet – Siegfried each-way.

2 – 3 – 14 – 13

RACE 4

***PAYROLL scratched & now not overly keen on the race***

Expecting plenty of support for the consistent mare (2) PAYROLL here who clearly comes into this race with superior form lines. Placed in Group 2 grade at Flemington during Cup week she then reeled off successive wins in Group 3 & Listed events down south. Placed in this race last year when racing up on the pace (totally against her pattern) don’t expect that the be the case here as Damien Oliver will give her plenty of time to settle before coming with his run in the straight. Going for some local hopes to run out the placings as importantly all are strong at the end of the 2200m trip, (6) MY GIULIANO, (10) INGEEGOODBE & (8) OUTRAGED whilst the well fancied (4) SEDANZER worries me up to this 2200m trip

Suggested Bet – ****Something e/w My Giuliano****.

2 – 6 – 10 – 8

RACE 5

With Egyptian Symbol scratched here electing to go around in the last race instead (1) GLOBAL GLAMOUR does appear head & shoulders above her opposition & will likely go off at a short quote. She’s a Group 1 winner who has trialled the house down in Sydney in preparation for this, she’ll land a gun run behind the likely leader Sweet Redemption & should simply prove too classy. Victorian visitor (8) MERRIEST finished 1.5L behind GLOBAL GLAMOUR at Caulfield two starts back & meets her 2.5kg better off at the weights. She ran well first up & holds a terrific second up record suggesting if you’re looking for something to knock over the favourite she’s the one. (12) PEPPERANO should be at her peak now, expect her to roll forward also. One to include in all exotics is the Team Snowden trained (16) PRETTY FAST who shows good potential.

Suggested Bet – Backing Global Glamour/Saving Merriest.

1 – 8 – 12 – 16

RACE 6

Here’s a really good race with likely tons of pace engaged predominantly through the very speedy Arbeitsam. Really like the look of these two local gallopers (3) CRACK ME UP & (11) CARE TO THINK with lucking in running likely to decide the result. Drawn the much better gate I’m leaning to CRACK ME UP who has been freshened up since winning the Group 2 Villiers at Randwick a month back. Drops from 1600m down to 1400m however will likely park a lot closer in the run than the very widely drawn CARE TO THINK. Just cannot see him pushing on & risking being trapped off the track unless there’s a strong bias in the earlier races away from the inside. Can never underestimate (1) LUCKY HUSSLER who bolted in this race two years ago & had no luck in the straight last year. Throw (10) SNOOPY into your exotics, terrific first up, excuses last time.

Suggested Bet – Crack Me Up each-way/Saver Care To Think

3 – 11 – 1 – 10

RACE 7

First of the ‘majors’ this time for the 3yo’s. According to the speed map they won’t be breaking any records in this race with Whypeeo looking like crossing from wide out to take up the lead, Wild Heart may push on however the other on pacers I Am Impinge & Cruze are both emergencies! That’s just going to play into the hands of the favourite (1) PIERATA who comes up with the inside gate & can just park away until required in the straight. He’s been terrific all campaign winning dominantly at Doomben at his final lead up a fortnight ago. The Sydney visitor (15) SASSO CORBARO is certainly worthy of thought if you’re looking for something to upset the favourite, she’s won both starts this preparation in strong style & although poorly drawn this is the fairest starting point of all on this track, perhaps she may push forward? (7) SHOGUN SUN won’t, he’s one dimensional however he’ll be hitting the line late. (9) WILD HEART certainly in the mix having won the Magic Millions race at Wyong first up, can only be further improved fitness wise.

Suggested Bet – Pierata to win.

1 – 15 – 7 – 9

RACE 8

This year’s Magic Millions which has created plenty of interest as normal with most thinking it’s a battle between the Newcastle colt (1) JONKER, local flying machine (2) EF TROOP & the Victorian filly (11) SUNLIGHT who has been so dominant at her two wins here on this track. The one factor we can be sure of is a strong tempo as there are plenty capable of chasing EF TROOP who jumps from the wide gate, not sure they can head him off however he’ll be burning petrol to cross early. Can’t go past SUNLIGHT who although leading & winning both victories here I don’t feel she has to find the front to win, if she can come across with EF TROOP & land some cover I think she’ll be too solid for them in the straight. The interesting runner is (12) NOMOTHAJ who has only raced once for a win down the Flemington straight back in October, the major plus from that win was he beat home SUNLIGHT by over a length although she did appear a little lost & has obviously improved plenty since. NOMOTHAJ has trialled twice in Sydney recently winning the latest in good style. EF TROOP will look to do what HOUTZEN did last year & run his rivals ragged with sheer speed, unbeaten & very impressive who’s to argue he won’t. JONKER is also unbeaten scoring impressively both starts Newcastle & Wyong, drawn the pole if there’s no bias against the inside he will gain a favourable run.

Suggested Bet – Sticking with Sunlight.

11 – 12 – 2 – 1

RACE 9

Appears a deadest match between a couple of very classy mares in (3) VIDDORA & (9) EGYPTIAN SYMBOL with both in slashing form. They have only met on the one prior occasion at Morphettville in May last year with Viddora finishing a half-length in front, there’s a decent weight turnaround against her here though which more than evens them up from that clash. I’m going with VIDDORA though as she does have the superior form through a couple of Melbourne Group 1 placings before breaking her Group 1 duck in the Winterbottom at Ascot in November when showing a very impressive turn of foot, looking for similar here. EGYPTIAN SYMBOL has since trialled after winning fresh at Rosehill being kept right up to the mark for this. First up winner (14) SNITZKRAFT can roll along in front from a kind draw & fill a placing.

Suggested Bet – Viddora to win/box her & Egyptian Symbol up in exotics.

3 – 9 – 14 – 11
