Race 3 12.42pm Caltex Bellbowrie Fillies & Mares Ratings Band 0-70 Handicap 1050m.
No.6 Red Handle – (T. Gollan) – 1st (0.2L) 25/7 Deagon 1050m Open trial Good (TR 95)
Jumped well didn’t push on though settling middle of a line of three behind the leading pair 2 lengths away. Travelled well easing widest turn, urged last 150m finished too well.
Resuming (130 days). Consistent mare who showed her versatility scoring Eagle Farm and Ipswich wins last campaign once from the front and once from the back of the field. She’s only missed a placing on the single occasion first up (which includes a win) and is a definite inclusion for exotics players.
Race 4 1.17pm Chris Munce Racing Benchmark 90 Handicap 1050m.
No.5 Handwritten – (M. Dunn) – 6th (1.9L) 31/7 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Good (TR 110)
Jumped well, caught wide restraining settled 3rd last off the fence just over 4 lengths from the lead. Under a good hold rounding the turn, tucked in behind went to the line with plenty left in the tank.
Resuming (181 days). Plenty of excuses first up last campaign however he’s won 2 of 4 fresh overall and draws perfectly tomorrow. In a race with plenty of speed Jockey Ron Stewart will have options to either kick up or take a trail. Smothered away nicely in the trial where he looked to have a lot more to offer. Big chance!
No.10 Tarzan – (S. Kendrick) – 3rd (0.2L) 1/8 Sunshine Coast 850m Open trial Good (TR N/A)
Jumped well, settled a clear 2nd just over a length from the leader. Similar early straight under a good grip, closers ran past late however both were put under more pressure than this one who was never really let down (wore heavy work shoes).
Resuming (142 days). Promising sprinter who has won 2 of his 3 first up outings to date going down narrowly the other. Very nice trial when never out of first gear however the barrier here is against him in a race with no shortage of likely early speed. Chance with luck early.
Race 6 2.27pm Pillow Talk Class 6 Plate 1350m.
No.3 One Inch Punch – (M. Dunn) – 3rd (1.1L) 25/7 Deagon 1200m Open trial Good (TR 110)
Jumped ok, no rush settled down 4th off the fence 3 lengths from the leading pair. Ridden along into the straight, few cracks from jockey Jeff Lloyd did keep coming ok to the line.
Resuming (288 days). Yet to win fresh however has placed 3 of 6 overall. Drawn well, holds a good record over this distance however to the eye has looked a bit flat in both recent trials. Keep an eye on the betting moves.
No.13 Ahndras – (T. Edmonds) – 2nd (3.0L) 31/7 Gold Coast 1000m Class 3 trial Good (TR 94)
Jumped ok, settled down 3rd holding the fence 3 lengths behind the leader. Off the rail slightly livened up into the straight almost 4 lengths away, did cut the margin and certainly not put under any strong pressure from jockey Jeff Lloyd.
Resuming (155 days). Lightly raced mare who came a long way in a short space of time last preparation stepping out over a mile and beyond. Without doubt she’ll improve on anything she shows here however off the good trial I’d be reluctant to leave her out.
Race 7 3.07pm Eureka Cambooya Stud C, G & E No Metro Wins Handicap 1200m.
No.8 Always Sacred – (T. Edmonds) – 1st (0.5L) 31/7 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Good (TR 110)
Jumped ok, settled 2nd off the fence spot the leader a neat length. Closer turn and into the straight taking over 100m out coasting home to score (wore heavy work shoes).
Resuming (127 days). Holds a good first up record having won twice and placed once from 4 attempts. Had the two trials leading in beaten narrowly in the first before a tidy win in quick time at the Gold Coast. Drawn to gain a good run and rates highly.
No.9 Jack Lancaster – (S. Kendrick) – 2nd (0.3L) 1/8 Sunshine Coast 1270m Open trial Good (TR N/A)
Jumped well, cantered to the front settling down a length clear not yet quite crossed. Did so soon after, headed for home about to be collared by Yankee Rose, held on very well under no real pressure only going down narrowly.
Freshened (29 days). Placed in easier grade on his home track three starts back however well beaten his past couple of starts on Soft ground which is not his go. Interestingly he looked to travel better than Yankee Rose in the trial and Browne jumping on sparks interest. Well worth including at a likely value price.
No.13 Lothario – (S. O’ Dea) – 2nd (0.3L) 31/7 Gold Coast 900m Open trial Good (TR 101)
Jumped ok, straight back to last in the small field on only three runners 4 lengths from the leader. Closer turn, within a length early straight railing home, coasted to the line as did the winner and stablemate Bracteate.
Let-up (53 days). Record over this distance isn’t good having placed at only 1 of 6 attempts. Couple that with the wide gate suggests his task looks a tough one.
No.21e Lifesaver – (M. Dunn) – 3rd (5.0L) 25/7 Deagon 1050m Class 2 trial Good (TR 108)
Jumped well, up on the lead early on balanced up a close 4th between rivals only 2 lengths from the leader. Cornered 4th a further length away, held ground down to the line given a very easy time under jockey Jim Byrne.
Resuming (212 days). Unbeaten at only the two starts to date and although he looked good in winning on each occasion the form out of those races hasn’t proven strong. However he can only win and that he has done, the trial was a very soft one in fast time which is a positive. Big betting watch…!
Race 8 3.47pm VCV Brisbane 3yo Handicap 1200m.
No.16e Let’s Party Marty – (D. Vandyke) – 1st (1.0L) 1/8 Sunshine Coast 850m 3yo trial Good (TRN/A)
Jumped well, straight to the front settled marginally clear against the fence. Travelled nicely into the straight, length clear 200m given a very slight and brief liven up extended the gap quickly before switching off soon after.
First start. Duporth colt whose dam won once from 10 starts, at stud has only produced one to race who is winless in 9 outings to date. Faces a tough task at this level on debut however he’s from a very astute yard and did look good in the trial extending nicely when given a slight dig. Definite market watch.
Race 9 4.27pm Gollan Racing Fillies & Mares No Metro Wins Handicap 1200m.
No.1 Star Of Night – (T. Edmonds) – 6th (3.1L) 25/7 Deagon 1050m Open trial Good (TR 107.5)
Jumped ok, no rush settled 5th off the fence just over 3 lengths off the lead. Urged approaching the turn, same into the straight no closer, held ground to the line.
Resuming (172 days). Quality mare with a terrific fresh record albeit in mostly easier races. She did hit her straps late last prep winning both starts before being tipped out for a break and goes around first up here in a new yard. Inside gate should see her land a good trip in the race, pay to monitor market moves closely.
No.8 Capetown Hussey – (S. O’ Dea) – 3rd (3.8L) 25/7 Deagon 1050m Open trial Good (TR 110)
Jumped ok, settled 4th fence under a good hold 3 lengths from the lead. Up to a clear 3rd turn brought to the outside straight, urged along held ground to the line.
Resuming (155 days). Placed 2 of 4 fresh with her best form being second up and onwards over 1400m plus. Likely to need the hit out here however should improve sharply with the run under her belt.
No.11 Bel Seline – (T. Edmonds) – 3rd (0.7L) 25/7 Deagon 1050m Open trial Good (TR 95)
Jumped well, cruised to the front soon after settled marginal leader fence. Coasting along turn and into the straight, collared very late however never out of first gear.
Resuming (88 days). Ex Sydney mare who is a new addition to the stable. Her only fresh win from 5 attempts came two campaigns back in a Newcastle Maiden. Given a very soft trial and drawn so well has to be kept very safe in the market.
