MM 2YO Classic 2017: Robbie is ready to risk From Within in the big one
BOOKMAKER Robbie Waterhouse said he will be “inclined to risk” early favourite From Within when he fields at the Magic Millions meeting for the first time on Saturday.
Waterhouse, who fields on course in Sydney and has been a guest bookmaker at many feature meetings around the country in the past few years, has been granted a stand at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
“The last time I stood in Queensland I reckon was the late 1970s and it was at a trotting carnival,” he said.
“I’m up here every year for the sales and I always go back to Sydney to field on this day, but it’s usually a poorish meeting, so it will be nice to be part of the buzz and I’m really looking forward to it.”
From Within, a Chris Waller-trained filly, firmed to favourite after the barrier draw, but there has been money for a number of others to beat her over the past 48 hours.
Waterhouse is one of the most respected form analysts in the country and he can understand the move for others.
“There are aspects of its form I’m not sure about and I’m against it,” he said.
Instead, he regards local filly Houtzen as the one to beat, along with Invincible Star, which is trained by his wife Gai.
“Horses that have a start like her and then a break, usually have plenty of improvement,” he said.
He is not sure his wife can get Global Glamour to topple Winning Rupert in the 3YO Guineas, but he has labelled the pair a “quinella certainty”.
