Super Suave to tackle own age group

Unbeaten colt Super Suave will make his city debut against three-year-olds instead of older horses after drawing a good barrier at Eagle Farm.

Trainer Liam Birchley entered Super Suave for the Three-Year-Old (1200m) and the Class 3 Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

But he elected to go with the race against the younger horses after Super Suave drew barrier four and barrier 15 in the Plate.

Super Suave has won his only two starts, a Sunshine Coast maiden and a BOBS bonus race at Lismore two weeks ago.

“I was always leaning towards the three-year-old because it will be a good test for him. He has led in both his wins but we might be able to ride him in behind on Saturday,” Birchley said.

Super Suave was bought for $360,000 by a syndicate headed by long time Birchley client Mark McLean at last year’s Magic Millions sales.

The colt is by the late High Chaparral out of the city winning Johannesburg mare Rubinacci.

“We have taken our time with him and after Saturday we should know if he is headed to something a bit better,” Birchley said.
