Race 1 12.27pm JVR Off 2yo F Plate 1050m.

No.2 Are We Ready – (B. Baker) – 4th (4.3L) 13/9 Toowoomba 850m 2yo F trial Good (4) (TR N/A)

Jumped just ok, improved though settling down 2nd wide on the track 2 lengths off the lead. Still deep rounding turn basically holding her ground to the line without being punished by any means.

First start today. 27.5K purchase whose sire won at Group 2 level in Sydney as a 2yo, dam won 1 of 10, this is her first foal to race. Awkward gate at the tricky starting point here makes her task a tough one on debut.

No.6 Princess Cavallo – (P. Butterworth) – 4th (3.7L) 20/9 Deagon 1050m Maiden trial Soft (5) (TR 99)

Jumped just ok, settled down 5th off the fence 4 lengths off the lead. Taken wider improving to corner 4 deep into the straight, put under the whip couldn’t make any further ground to the line.

First start today. 9K purchase by a Group 1, 2 & 3 winning sire who has sired many Group and Listed winners of which All Too Hard is clearly the most successful having won 4 times at Group 1 level. Dam has had only the one to race who is unplaced all 6 starts to date. Likely to find this a bit too tough based on the trial performance.

No.8 Starena – (M. Webb) – 2nd (2.3L) 13/9 Sunshine Coast 850m 2yo trial Soft (5) (TR 90)

Jumped ok, ridden along worked up to settle 3 lengths off the lead in 3rd position. Cornered 2nd being urged along, whip pulled however only held ground to the line.

First start today. Sire a winner at Group 2 level in Sydney as a 2yo, dam has had 5 to race with 3 winners to date.  No match for winner Flamin’ Sid in the trial however did beat the rest by 5 lengths. Drawn ok however place chances appear best.

No.10 Tiara Star – (T. Edmonds) – 2nd (0.1L) 13/9 Gold Coast 900m 2yo trial Soft (6) (TR N/A)

Jumped well, settled marginal leader two wide in the field of only three runners. Joined into the straight, only coasted down to the line.

First start today. Sire a Group 3 winner in the USA (1700m), dam has had 3 to race with all being successful including the Group 2 placed Zoutenant. Could have won the trial if Jeff Lloyd asked her to, stable are on a prolific winning run. Expecting to run very well.

Race 2 1.02pm Skytrans 2yo C & G Plate 1050m.

No.1 Flamin’ Sid – (S. Kendrick) – 1st (2.3L) 13/9 Sunshine Coast 850m 2yo trial Soft (5) (TR 90)

Jumped well, wanted to buck jump briefly, quickly got his mind back on the job to lead 2 lengths. Increased the margin by a length into the straight and coasted home to score easily without being pushed out.

First start today. Sire a winner at Group 2 level in Sydney as a 2yo whilst the dam has only had one to race being the speedy local Burn Notice. Bucked soon after the start in the trial yet quickly recovered and went on to score with ease. Wide gate however with luck can feature in the finish.

No.2 Wonder Boom – (P. Butterworth) – 1st (0.1L) 20/9 Deagon 1050m Maiden trial Soft (5) (TR 96)

Jumped well, charged across the field to lead almost 2 lengths settling down. Almost joined near 400m however kicked strongly on the turn to again race out 2 lengths clear, held late closer and wasn’t pushed out to the line.

First start today. 21K purchase whose sire was a multiple Group 1, 2 & 3 winner, has produced local stakes winners Excellantes and Madotti amongst others. Dam has had 2 to race for only the single winner to date. Looked good winning the trial however also draws wide and will need luck.

Race 6 3.32pm Rusty’s Firewood Class 3 Plate 1350m.

No.8 Zimbali – (K. Schweida) – 2nd (1.5L) 20/9 Deagon 1050m Class 2 trial Soft (5) (TR 96)

Jumped ok, drifted back to last of the 4 runners 4 lengths off the lead. Improving 400m, took the shortcuts into the straight and held ground to the line being urged along (wore heavy work shoes).

Resuming today. Only the one first up win which was his debut Australian start at Sandown in February 2015. Likely to find this too short first up.

No.14 Pepperano – (L. Birchley) – 1st (1.0L) 20/9 Deagon 1200m Class 1 – 4 trial Soft (5) (TR 99)

Jumped well, straight to the front settled 2 lengths clear. Joined 400m, held a slight margin into the straight, edged clear to the line without being pushed out.

Freshened (5 weeks). Speedy mare who was narrowly beaten here last time out over 1200m. Get the feeling 1350m will test her right out however she’ll give a sight.

Race 7 4.12pm Qld Accounting Group Open Handicap 1350m.

No.3 Darci Be Good – (A. Williamson) – 2nd (1.5L) 13/9 S. Coast 1270m Class 1 + trial Soft (5) (TR N/A)

Jumped ok, settled back 2nd last in the small field only just over 3 lengths from the leader. Brought wider to make ground into the straight, urged along did so without threat (wore heavy work shoes).

Resuming. Won 1 of 9 first up suggesting he’ll need the hit out here.

No.14 Kalandula – (B. Hill) – Last of 4 (5.6L) 13/9 Gold Coast 900m Class 2 + trial Soft (6) (TR 107)

Jumped ok, no rush from the gate settled back last 4 lengths from the lead. Urged along to stay in touch 550m, pushed along the entire straight couldn’t make any ground.

Resuming. Generally races well fresh having won 2 of her 4 starts to date. Didn’t fire in the trial however could be worth including in wide exotics.

Race 8 4.52pm Qld Accounting Group Class 6 Plate 1200m.

No.4 Le Val – (N. Doyle) – 4th (2.4L) 13/9 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Soft (6) (TR 107.5)

Jumped ok, no rush off the wide gate drifted back 2nd last 7 lengths from the leader. Pushed along rounding the turn and down the straight ran on well particularly late.

Resuming today. Handy galloper who is always capable of pulling out a run fresh having won 2 of his 6 first up attempts to date. Hit the line hard in the trial and is well worth including here.

No.11 Sunny Victory – (D. Duryea) – 1st (0.5L) 20/9 Deagon 1050m Open trial Soft (5) (TR 111)

Jumped ok, pushed on to lead marginally off the fence. Travelled ok to the turn heading for home in 2nd placing, rallied to regain the lead late under minimal urgings from jockey Jim Byrne.

Freshened (24 days). Horse and stable in form winning last time out at Doomben in strong on paced fashion and beat Group 1 winner Miss Cover Girl in the trial. With luck from the awkward draw should be right in the finish.

** (TR) –Time Rating; each trial is given a numerical figure (average being 100) measured against the average trial time taking into account class, track & distance relative to conditions on the day. Generally the higher the figure the stronger the trial.
