Race 1 12.50pm John Flynn Private Hospital QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate 1200m.
No.8 La Chapeau – Last of 7 (8.1L) 28/1 Gold Coast 1000m 2yo trial Soft (5) (TR89.5)
First start. Missed the start half a length settling back 2nd last 4 lengths off the lead. Closer into the straight & although gave ground to the line wasn’t asked for much effort at all by jockey Luke Dittman. Originally purchased for 78K however most recently changed hands for 16K. By a first season sire who won 3 times at Group 1 level (twice as 2yo, once as 3yo). Trial no guide as missed the start & given an easy time down the straight. In good local hands & must be kept safe.
Race 2 1.23pm Robina Town Centre Maiden Plate 900m.
No.3 Here’s To Luxury – 1st (2.3L) 28/1 Gold Coast 1000m Maiden trial Soft (5) (TR96)
Resuming. Jumped well, straight to the front settled almost 2 lengths clear. Cornered similar under a good hold, extended the margin soon after to coast home basically under no urgings at all. Not far away first 3 starts before pulling up lame latest effort prior to being spelled. Judging on the trial performance has certainly improved over the break, drawn awkwardly however not willing to leave out.
No.5 Prosvegas – 2nd (0.1L) 19/1 Deagon 850m Maiden – Class 2 trial Good (3) (TR100)
First start. Jumped well, went straight to the front settling marginally clear holding the inside. Left rail into the straight, joined late & although headed did appear to have more to offer (wore heavy shoes). Sire a Group 1 winner (2009 BTC Cup) who also won at Group 2 & 3 level both as a 2yo. Trialled nicely in good time, right in the mix here.
No.10 American At Sea – 3rd (1.8L) 28/1 Deagon 850m Maiden – Class 2 trial Good (3) (TR92)
First start. Jumped ok, moved through along the fence to settle a marginal leader. Similar into the straight, headed soon after & was held by first couple to the line although not pushed out (wore heavy shoes). 21K purchase whose sire was a Group 1 winner (2009 Emirates) as well as wining at Group 3 & Listed level both as a 2yo. Only stakes winning success at stud to date is the Group 3 & Listed winner Bachman. Wasn’t asked for a lot in the trial & comes from a very successful first up stable. Definitely including.
No.11 Cellyse – 3rd (2.1L) 15/12/15 Gold Coast 1000m Maiden trial Soft (5) (TR107)
First start. Jumped ok, no rush settled 4th staying off inside 3 lengths away. Closer straight, urged along briefly holding ground to the line, wasn’t asked for a great deal. Sire a Group 2, 3 & Listed winner (1400 & 1500m) who is yet to produce any stakes winners at stud. Also trialled here 24/11/15 when tardily away making good ground under a grip. Interestingly both trials were with another stable (Toby Edmonds). Done enough to show up, betting?
No.13 Silhouetta – 7th (12.1L) 12/1 Sunshine Coast 850m Maiden trial Good (3) (TR101)
First start. Missed the start a length & lost further ground before tacking on last 9 lengths from the lead. Brought wider into the straight held ground to the line without being asked for any effort. By the same sire as Group 1 Caulfield Guineas winner In Top Swing. No guide in the trial as she missed the start & was never put under any pressure to chase. In a shrewd betting yard & pay to keep on the safe side here.
Race 3 1.57pm Shadow Boxers Charity Race Class 2 Handicap 900m.
No.6 Graceville – 1st (2.8L) 12/1 Sunshine Coast 850m Class 2 trial Good (3) (TR103)
Resuming. Just ok to jump however quickly rushed up to a clear 3rd stalking the leaders 2 lengths away. Wider into the straight cruised to the front 150m out & came clear to the line winning without being pushed out. Nicconi filly who has shown ability in her limited career to date. Although failed both first up runs so far her trial win suggested she may have come back a better horse. Drawn to feature.
Race 4 2.37pm CCS Insurance Solutions Maiden Handicap 1300m.
No.2 Bus Lane – 5th (3.3L) 28/1 Gold Coast 1000m Class 2 trial Soft (5) (TR106)
First start. Jumped well, settled close up 3rd well off the fence 2 lengths from the leader. Cornered closer being urged along, faded however wasn’t punished by any means. Sire a Group 2, 3 & Listed winner all as a 2yo. Given a relatively easy time in the trial which was run in good time. Locally trained & drawn nicely, certainly one to keep on the safe side.
No.4 Sparkling L’Amour – 1st (1.8L) 28/1 Gold Coast 1000m Maiden trial Soft (5) (TR93)
First start. Jumped just ok, no harm done settling widest of a line of three behind the leaders 3 lengths away. Loomed widest turn closing the margin, hit lead late coming clear to the line under minimal urgings. 13K purchase whose sire won 5 times at Group 1 level locally, in New Zealand & also Europe (1400-2400m). At stud has produced Group 1 winners Star Witness & We Can Say It Now (NZ), dam has produced a Listed 2yo winner in Brisbane (Chickens). Solid trial win & although drawn poorly is in good hands & worth including in exotics.
No.13 Dozen Diamonds – Last of 7 (10.7L) 15/12/15 Sun Coast 850m Maiden trial Good (4) (TR105)
First start. Missed the start a length & settled 2nd last 8 lengths away. Urged along at times down the straight failed to make any impression. 30K purchase by a prolific New Zealand Group winning sire, dam won at Listed level. Didn’t fire in the trial however on the positive side the time was good. Happy to pass at this stage unless there’s market support.
Race 6 3.57pm First National Real Estate Broadbeach Class 1 Handicap 1300m.
No.7 Old Tex – 1st (4.5L) 28/1 Deagon 1000m Class 2 trial Soft (5) (TR112)
Resuming. Jumped ok, drove through along the fence to find the front just under a length clear. Steered to the centre of the track heading for home with a 3 length margin coasting along, very easy work. Only lightly raced & ended his first preparation with a good win here over slightly further when leading throughout. Similar story in the trial clocking slick time in the process, provided he can cross from his wide gate without using too much petrol early on could take plenty of catching.
Race 7 4.37pm The Ray White Surfers Paradise Group Benchmark 75 Handicap 1200m
No.2 Eastern Prince – 4th (2.3L) 28/1 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Soft (5) (TR110)
Resuming. Jumped well, tried to cross from the outside gate, couldn’t do so settled 3rd off the fence 2 lengths away. Margin 4 lengths into the straight leader got away, did make ground to the line & wasn’t pushed out. Has recorded a win & 2 placings from 5 first up attempts to date & comes out of a fast run trial. Concern is the very wide draw, will need luck & plenty of it.
No.9 Rebel Rover – 1st (0.1L) 28/1 Gold Coast Open trial Soft (5) (TR108)
Resuming. Missed the start half a length & given time to balance up before taking off 3 & 4 wide to settle with a length of the lead. Livened up straight, level 50m out before only ambling to the line. Ex Victorian who also trialled here 12/1 wining that heat also. Has won fresh & was rarely far away down south. Done enough to rate a winning change at his first local outing.
No.11 Valerie D’Amour – 3rd (2.3L) 19/1 Deagon 1000m Open trial Good (3) (TR98)
Resuming. Jumped ok, no rush drifted back 2nd last 9 lengths from the lead. Stayed against inside rail rounding turn only holding ground down to the line (wore heavy shoes). Unplaced all 4 first up efforts to date & is better suited over further.
