Trackwork Confidential: Brisbane
THE Gold Coast Bulletin’s Brad Davidson pinpoints five things you need to know from around the tracks.
1. It could well pay to follow Brisbane trainer Liam Birchley in the next few weeks. Birchley has trained five winners from his past 10 runners and that’s not including Rock Royalty’s win in the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton last week.
2. You would now be getting Black Caviar-like odds about Tony Gollan breaking Bruce McLachlan’s record of 78 metropolitan winners in a season (1987-88) this month. Gollan is just two wins off McLachlan’s mark and looks set to move a step closer to the record when he saddles up four runners at Ipswich on Wednesday.
4.Golden Falls still looks a stakes filly in the making despite her shock defeat at Doomben last Saturday. The Doomben track was badly chopped up by the last and the run was still good. The best thing about her is she’s not just a one-dimensional backmarker and she can settle closer if she draws a gate. Expect her to bounce back over the mile at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday week.
5. Horses to follow: Blue Lion, Our Boy Nicholas and Rich Tradition are three horses that look ready to win soon. All three put in eye-catching efforts at Doomben on Saturday. Point is a name Brisbane racing followers can expect to hear more of in the next year or so as well and the progressive stayer made it two wins from three starts at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
