The following runners engaged today at the Gold Coast have recently trialled in the South East Queensland area. Below is a summary of the trial together with a comment on their chances today.

Race 4 2.40pm Girls On Tour One Metro Win Handicap 1200m.

No.13 Skytastic – 2nd (2.0L) 3/3 Gold Coast 1000m Class 3 trial Soft (5) (TR101)

Resuming. Jumped just ok, settled in the last few 5 lengths from the leader fence. Cut the margin to almost 3 lengths rounding turn, livened up ran on well without threat to the winner although beating the rest easily (wore heavy shoes). Locally trained galloper with a good first up record having won at 2 of 3 tries to date. No match for the winner in the trial however kept coming on nicely. Certainly not without an each-way/multiples chance.

Race 6 4.00pm Matthew Dunn Racing Class 6 Handicap 1400m.

No.8 Retune – 5th 3/3 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Soft (5) (TR99)

Resuming. Missed the start by a length settling down 2nd last off the fence almost 7 lengths from the leader. No closer rounding the turn, only coasted down the straight out for the exercise. Stayer who will need the outing here, wait for later over more ground.

No.10 Micken – 1st (0.3L) 3/3 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Soft (5) (TR99)

Resuming. Jumped ok, went forward to settle down 2nd off the fence. Edging closer all the way to the turn, cornered wider out, livened up 200 paired out to the line just getting in. Off the scene for well over a year however with a solid fresh record & the trial victory isn’t the roughest here.

Race 7 4.40pm Carbine Club Gold Coast Stakes 1200m.

No.3 Typhoon Red – 1st (1.8L) 3/3 Toowoomba-Inner 925m Open trial Good (4) (TR112.5)

Resuming. Jumped well, landed handy settling down 2nd off the fence 2 lengths from the leader. Edging closer to the turn before taking over 200 under urgings, came away & eased up late. Toowoomba galloper who’s only first up loss in 4 attempts came on a Heavy (9) rated surface. Ran time in the trial & must be rated a definite winning chance here.

No.6 Neo – 1st (1.0L) 3/3 Sunshine Coast – Inner 850m Open trial Good (4) (TR109)

Resuming. Jumped well, went straight to the front crossing to lead by a neat length. 2-3 off the fence rounding home turn, challenged soon after before being pushed out to score (wore heavy shoes). Ex Kiwi galloper now with Stuart Kendrick at the Sunshine Coast. Has placed 3 of 4 first up attempts & did run good time winning the trial. One to keep safe.

No.10 War Ends – 1st (0.1L) 3/3 Gold Coast 900m Open trial Soft (5) (TR104)

Resuming. Jumped well, eased soon after though settling last of the 3 runners 2 lengths away. Cornered similar coming widest, livened up 200 got going & finished slightly stronger. First up record nothing to get excited about & did only beat two opponents in the trial. Place best.

No.12 Keredari – 2nd (0.3L) 3/3 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Soft (5) (TR99)

Resuming. Jumped ok, settled 3rd fence 2 lengths from the leader. Travelled well to the turn & scored a gap between the leaders near 250, went through & paired out to the line being narrowly beaten however was pressured less than the winner. Well travelled galloper who has gone from Ireland to Hong Kong to here with a run in France thrown in early in his career! Didn’t mind the trial however last win was in 2011… Perhaps one for very wide multiples.

Race 8 5.20pm SKY Racing QTIS 3yo Handicap 1200m.

No.1 Upstart Pride – 2nd (1.8L) 3/3 Toowoomba – Inner 1200m Open trial Good (4) (TR112.5)

Freshened (28 days). Jumped ok, sent forward soon after to race out a 2 length leader. Still clear 500 although gap closing to the turn, headed 200, urged however not punished (wore heavy shoes). Going great guns this time in & with the trial (run in slick time) under his belt he’ll be fit enough to run a big race here. Definite chance.

No.7 Hazard Bay – 3rd (2.2L) 3/3 Sunshine Coast – Inner 850m Class 2 trial Good (4) (TR98)

Resuming. Jumped well, went to the front however joined settling down. Edged clear into the straight, urged & headed inside the 200, outgunned in the run to the line. Problem child who was scratched at the gates recently when again playing up. Forced to trial due to his issues, if he can put it all together is a definite chance. Have to take on trust though.

No.10 Outback Saga – 1st (0.4L) 3/3 Sunshine Coast – Inner 850m Class 2 trial Good (4) (TR98)

Resuming. Jumped ok, pushed on soon after to settle joint leader off the fence. Wider cornering, urged along 300 now 2 lengths away, shoved along last 100 arrived on the line. Has a fresh win to her credit (debut) & although pushed out to win the trial isn’t without a place chance here.

No.18e Casinomac – 1st (2.0L) 3/3 Gold Coast 1000m Class 3 trial Soft (5) (TR101)

Resuming. Jumped well, straight to the front 2 lengths clear steering a wide course. Similar rounding turn, travelled well 200 extending the gap soon after, impressive win. Only lightly raced & has shown ability. Looks to have improved plenty during the break if the trial is anything to go by. Well worth including at likely good odds.
