Gold Coast barrier trial snapshot 22/1/15
After a false start on the Tuesday due to heavy rain we finally got 10 heats in on the B Grass last Thursday where the track was rated a Heavy (8).
Brian Guy’s lightly raced 3yo Polynikes took out Heat 2 in tidy fashion clocking better than average time in the process, he beat all bar the winner Glorious Red at his last start 5 weeks ago & this hit out will certainly help keep his fitness up to the mark when contesting upcoming events. He’s a promising type who should go on & win his share of races.
Double Wishbone was an interesting runner in Heat 3, an unraced 140K Testa Rossa x Angel Of The South gelding he was up against a few nice types & although pressured to win by a neat length he did the job well considering his lack of race experience. This looked a strong Heat & I’m expecting the form to stand up across almost all runners.
Gillian Heinrich’s unraced 10K All Bar one filly Moral Minefield clocked the fastest time of the session winning Heat 4, she sped out 4 lengths clear shortly after the start & although that margin had been narrowed to near on a length cornering she again bounded clear at the 250m before easing up late, she may turn out to be a bargain buy!
Red Diamonds from the Toby Edmonds camp was the most impressive winner of the session, he scored easily by 4 lengths in Heat 8 only really coasting down the straight, he tends to run his best races when on the fresh side so is worth looking out for early in his new campaign.
