Here’s some help with recent trial runners racing at the Gold Coast today.
The following runners engaged today at the Gold Coast have recently trialled in the South East Queensland area. Below is a summary of the trial together with a comment on their chances today.
*Please note due to Christmas print deadlines any horses which trialled here on Tuesday (23/12) could not be included below, apologies for any inconvenience.
Race 3 2.45pm Mick Turner No Metro Wins Handicap 1200m.
No.12 Rainbow Magic – 3rd (3.8L) 16/12 Deagon 1000m Open trial Good (TR N/A)
Resuming. Jumped ok, not bustled settling down 4th fence almost 3 lengths from the lead. Tracked leader to the turn, urged straight, not punished however no real run on (wore heavy shoes). Really hit his straps last campaign winning his last 3 starts all here over 1300 & 1400m. Has won 2 of 4 fresh & although this is a tougher assignment could show up without surprising.
No.14 Duelled Force – 1st (2.0L) 2/12 Gold Coast 900m Open trial Good (TR110)
Resuming. Jumped well, settled 2nd off the fence 2 lengths from the leader. Coasted along to the turn before looming up & reaching the lead 250, ambled away in the run to the line. Big loping sort of galloper who scored a very easy trial win in good time. Has won twice fresh & won’t be far from the action here.
No.15 Rideonabigjetplane – 2nd (4.5L) 16/12 Deagon 800m Class 4 trial Good (TR N/A)
Resuming. Jumped ok, no rush though settled back last of the 4 runners 7 lengths from the leader. Easing 3 wide turn, closed some ground without being pressured. Lightly raced galloper who has his share of ability. Placed only two first up runs & did win a trial in good style prior to the above second. Definite each-way chance.
Race 5 4.05pm B.J. McLachlan Stakes 1200m.
No.13 Blink ‘n’ Miss – 2nd (0.4L) 16/12 Deagon 1000m 2 & 3yo trial Good (TR N/A)
First start. Jumped well, settled very marginal leader fence. Joined cornering, urged along however just outgunned latter stages (wore heavy shoes). 110K Denman filly out of a Bite The Bullet mare who has produced a Listed 2yo winner (One Lickety Split). Trialled twice with the latest being the best, this is a very tough ask on debut.
Race 6 4.42pm Vo Rogue Plate 1300m.
No.5 Yeager – 1st (0.3L) 16/12 Deagon 1200m Maiden – Class 5 trial Good (TR N/A)
Freshened (21 days). Resuming. Jumped ok, caught wide pushed on couldn’t get in though 2 lengths away. Similar turn, livened up straight steadily got to the leader & coasted home. Backmarker who has given away big starts both runs this time in. Caught wide & did a good job in the trial, is this going to be far enough though?
No.11 Rosella – 2nd (1.3L) 11/11 Sunshine Coast 850m Class 3 trial Good (TR N/A)
Resuming. Jumped ok, settled 2nd off the fence 2 lengths from the leader. Marginally closer 300 being urged along, made no impression from then on held by the winner. Nice filly who has won 2 of 3 starts overall & certainly wasn’t disgraced when missing a place (4th) at her second start. Trial was back in November suggesting market moves will be our best guide here.
Race 7 5.22pm Gold Coast Christmas Cup C, G & E Benchmark 85 Handicap 1400m.
No.2 Gundy Son – 1st (2.3L) 16/12 Deagon 1000m Open trial Good (TR N/A)
Freshened (28 days). Jumped well, settled joint leader fence. Held a slight margin soon after, cornered for home pinched a length, cruised away extending the margin. Led here two starts back when eventually 3rd to Sir Moments. Freshened & up to 1400m which is a slight concern although the trial would have helped fitness wise. Each-way chance.
No.5 Elmantosh – 4th (4.0L) 16/12 Deagon 1000m Open trial Good (TR N/A)
Resuming. Jumped ok, no rush though settled back last almost 6 lengths off the pace. Ridden very quietly before being livened up turn, under whip straight basically held ground (wore heavy shoes). Fresh win was at his second start (Ipswich Maiden). 1400m should suit though first up & he will be running on at the right end.
