Keep a close eye on these suggested horses, they are either in form or about to reach it.

Heater (Eagle Farm 16/7/14 Race 5)

Yes I know there’s plenty of you rolling your eyes when reading the name of this Patinack galloper. Fair to say he’s had his share of chances having won only 1 of 17 starts however his effort here was solid enough to suggest he mightn’t be far away. Drifting well back in the run he was still over 5L from the leader passing the 200 working home well to cut that margin back on the line. His sectionals were terrific all the way from the 1200m (Ranked 1st all the way to the line), with closing splits of 400-200 (12.04), 200-Finish (12.68), no other runner broke 25 seconds for their last 400.

Last Lap (Ipswich 18/7/14 Race 1)

Henny Hughes gelding trained out at Deagon by Steele Ryan who resumed in an 800m scamper which was way to short for him & as a result he just couldn’t keep up early on. He certainly hit his straps over the last 400m however breaking 22 seconds in the process, his closing splits were 400-200 (10.96, Rank 3), 200-Finish (10.84, Rank 1) suggesting he’ll be well suited up to the 1000 & 1200m range at his next couple of starts, also keep in mind he has won & placed second up from only 2 attempts.

Charlie Cat (Eagle Farm 19/7/14 Race 4)

Lightly raced gelding trained on the Gold Coast by Les Kelly who put in a barnstorming finish to run down Architect which isn’t an easy task. Has now won 3 of 5 & is without doubt going to build on that record if this effort is any indication. A clear last almost 7L off the leader swinging for home he closed with splits of 400-200 (11.04, Rank 1), 200-Finish (11.56, Rank 1) charging past every one of his rivals in the run to the post. Sectionally in all three wins this campaign he’s been very strong late in his races, hopefully for us locals he won’t be snapped up by Hong Kong buyers however that’s a definite possibility.
