Sectional Stars week ending 13/7/14

Traveston Girl (Doomben 12/7/14 Race 4)

Highly promising filly from the Tony Gollan stable who did her fair share of work early on before finding the lead near the 800m. Given the slightest of breathers she was then able to put a space in her rivals down the straight clocking closing splits of 400-200 (11.44, Rank 1), 200-Finish (11.64, Rank 1). Note also her overall time was faster than the two other races run over this distance on the day both contested by older horses.

Stellarcraft (Ipswich 11/7/14 Race 6)

Lightly raced gelding trained by David Murphy at Eagle Farm who looks close to another win. He gave his rivals a decent start in this 1000m scamper before hitting his straps & charging to the line late being the only runner to break 34 seconds for his last 600 and running a slick 11.28 for his last 200 only just failing to run down the winner by a very small margin.

Choice We Had (Eagle Farm 9/7/14 Race 1)

Choisir colt trained by Bruce Hill on the Gold Coast who impressed here at his debut outing. He had indicated in a prior Deagon trial he was going to appreciate getting over ground & that’s exactly how it looked here as he only really hit his straps over the last 100m or so of the race. His closing splits of 400-200 (10.96, Rank 5), 200-Finish (11.40, Rank 1) certainly suggest he’ll be hard to hold out in upcoming races around the 1200m & onwards range.
